Frequently Asked Questions

We understand that you may have questions before booking or staying with us.

We have prepared a list of frequently asked questions to help answer some of the things on the top of your mind.

How do I make a reservation?

It’s easy! The best way to reserve with us is directly through our website. It is secure and provides you with instant confirmation! It is also where you will find the best offers. A valid credit card is needed to make the reservation. If you need any assistance or have any questions, feel free to give us a call at the Reception at +1 613-237-0335 or email us.

Are there any additional fees above the nightly rate?

A 4% Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) and 13% Harmonized Sales Tax is not included in the nightly rate and will be added to your reservation.

What do I need for check-in?

Once guests arrive at the Swiss Hotel to check-in, we require the credit card used to book the reservation presented by the cardholder, along with matching photo identification (government-issued photo ID).

Can I still come in and out after the Reception closes at 11:00 pm?

Yes, of course! All guests are provided with time-activated key cards to enter the building and their room at any time during their stay.

How do I enter the building?

Our entrance is located on 89 Daly Avenue. Since our reception is found one floor down, we control access to the building by keeping the second front door locked at all times. In order to check-in, please enter the lobby and pick up the phone or ring the bell to be let in. Once you’ve checked in, guests can use their key cards to enter the building at any time during their stay.

Do you serve breakfast?

Yes! We offer a Swiss buffet-style breakfast in our Breakfast Room and Lounge daily between 7:30 am and 9:00 am Monday to Friday, and 7:30 am and 10:00 am Saturday, Sundays and Holidays. Reservations for the breakfast service must be made by 6:00 pm the previous day or at the time of booking your stay at the Swiss Hotel.

Do you have a restaurant?

While we do not have a restaurant for lunch and dinner, we serve a Swiss-style buffet breakfast to our guests daily (charges apply). Luckily, we are located just steps away from the Byward Market, where guests can find hundreds of restaurants covering a range of cuisines and styles.

Do you have parking?

Located in the heart of the downtown core, the Swiss Hotel has a limited number of parking spots available onsite for our guests. As a result, we may only offer parking on a first come first served basis. Our daily rate is $15/day and we do not offer in-and-out privileges. There are also a number of large paid parking lots within the vicinity of our hotel as well as limited street parking on Daly Avenue. Please note that The Swiss Hotel is not responsible for the security of your vehicle or belongings left within. We recommend that you remove all valuables from your vehicle prior to parking.

Do you have a meeting room?

We have a meeting space that can accommodate up to 12 persons for small gatherings. Please contact us for more information, daily rates and availability.

What accommodations can the Swiss Hotel make for individuals with allergies?

If you have any medical, allergic or any other problem that might affect your stay, please inform us upon making a reservation. We will do our best to accommodate you (e.g., with hypo-allergenic duvets and pillows). Please note, however, that we do not have designated areas and equipment for preparing and cooking allergen-free food, should you choose to have breakfast with us.

Can I bring my pets?

Pets are not allowed in our guest rooms and hotel public areas, with the exception of registered service animals. Non-compliance will result in a $200.00 CAN cleaning fee and dismissal from our property.

Do you have an elevator?

The Swiss Hotel is set in a 19th century historic stone building and unfortunately we are not able to accommodate an elevator. Our rooms are spread across three floors, in addition to the ground floor, where our reception is located and our breakfast is served. We will gladly assist guests with their belongings and baggage, just ask us for assistance upon arrival! Please contact us prior to making a reservation if you have any mobility concerns.

Is smoking allowed?

For the comfort of all our guests, smoking of all kinds is strictly prohibited in our rooms and throughout the building. Smoking is also prohibited in our Garden Courtyard during our breakfast hours. Those who do not respect this policy will be asked to leave the property and will be charged a $350.00 cleaning fee.

How many people can stay in one room?

The maximum occupancy for our rooms is two people. All of our guests must be registered with the Reception and additional visitors are not permitted. Please note that all guests must be over the age of 18 years old to stay at the Swiss Hotel.

Do you accept children?

The Swiss Hotel has an adults-only policy. To help us create an atmosphere of relaxation and ensure that our guests get the rest they need, only guests of 18 years and older are permitted to stay at the hotel.

I left something in my room. How can I retrieve it?

The hotel will make every effort to retrieve and hold any items accidentally left behind for up to 30 days. Thereafter, if the item remains unclaimed, we will donate it to goodwill. Guests are responsible for all shipping-related costs for the return of lost and found items.

Can I leave my luggage with you?

Guests are welcome to leave their luggage with us at Reception for up to 24 hours prior to check-in or after check-out.  Please note that the hotel is not liable for the theft, loss, damage or destruction of the property.

Do you offer daily housekeeping?

Yes, we are happy to provide daily housekeeping between the hours of 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.  For the safety of our staff and guests, occupied rooms will be serviced while guests are present. Guests who prefer not to be disturbed during their stay and/or wish to forego daily housekeeping can simply place a “Do not Disturb” sign on their door handle, visible on the outside of the door. Staff members will not knock, call, or enter the room. When the “Do not Disturb” sign is in place, your room will not be serviced. Management reserves the right to enter in the event of an emergency or if suspected illegal activity is taking place.

I’d like to do something special for my partner. Can I spread rose petals across the bed?

While we fully endorse a bit of romantic flare, we ask that our guests refrain from spreading real rose petals or confetti across our rooms, as they often cause staining on our premium white sheets and can be very difficult to clean. Any type of loss or damage to items in the room or any public space will result in a charge that will be at the discretion of management.
